AVR has been a pioneer in the retail industry since the 1950’s when shopping centers were a novelty on Long Island, NY. AVR built some of the first chain stores on Long Island and developed many Walbaum’s shopping centers throughout the north-east. AVR has owned and operated over 75 retail properties over the firm’s history. Our current retail portfolio includes over three million square feet of space, including the Forum in San Antonio, Texas, one of the largest open air retail properties in America. AVR manages all aspects of its retail portfolio including, property management, leasing, and development. Our latest retail development is the Shoppes at the Boulevard in Yaphank, NY, a Walmart anchored shopping center.

AVR has been active in both for-sale housing and multifamily rental housing since the very beginnings of the company. AVR has built dozens of residential communities across the New York metro region including many award-winning communities on Long Island. Our current residential portfolio includes over 2,000 multifamily housing units across the eastern seaboard, including our latest development the Brio in Yaphank, NY, an elevator-serviced property with mid-rise units in addition to carriage homes and townhomes. Our latest for-sale project is called Overlook Pointe, located in the Hudson Valley

AVR entered the Hotel business in the 1960’s with the development of a franchised Howard Johnson’s. AVR went on to build over 30 HoJo’s as they were referred to at the time. Over the decades, AVR has built, owned, and operated dozens of hotels across America. Our current hotel portfolio includes Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt brands nationwide. We are active in both the select service and full-service spaces. AVR owns the historic Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans, LA, which we completely restored to its grandeur after Hurricane Katrina, branding it a Waldorf Astoria.

AVR’s capability to own and operate all aspects of large-scale, mixed-use developments is unique and comes from a 70-year development history with over 100 projects built nationwide. AVR has successfully developed projects through vision, insight, and perseverance and creativity. Throughout the firm’s history, AVR has acquired raw land with a vision for the future. AVR has taken thousands of acres of land through the entitlement process to enhance properties for the community and all stakeholders. AVR’s developments focus on a range of housing and transportation options, walkability, and the preservation of open space. We pride ourselves on creating something special.

Our current marquee project is a two million square-foot, mixed-use development located at the intersection of the Long Island Expressway and William Floyd Parkway in the Town of Brookhaven. When complete, this project will have over 300,000 square-feet of retail and restaurant uses, 935 for-rent and for-sale residential units, assisted- and independent-living residences and recreation facilities.
